The Cooking School @ Hedera Farm

Join us in the beautifully renovated Farmhouse @ Hedera Farm for a series of intimate hands-on cooking classes, demonstrations, workshops, and dinners led by Chef Kenn. Each class will focus on a theme, seasonal ingredient, or special technique, and many include a family-style dinner featuring the class-made dish. Classes are suitable for all experience levels, and are currently limited to eight participants.

In every class we’ll discuss proper ingredient selection and sourcing, suitable substitutions, and proper food handling and cooking techniques as well as considerations for health and safety, storage, and problem-solving on the fly… and we’ll eat well!

So bring your questions and appetites and we’ll fill our minds and bellies in a small group setting.

Frequently Asked Questions:

“How do I pay my reservation deposit?”

Our new class scheduling service, Acuity, takes a depot at time of registration. You can choose to pay a $25 deposit when registering, or pay for the class in full. We no longer send out payment links. You will automatically receive an email confirmation upon successful registration. Please check your spam/junk mail folder. If you do not pay the full amount, the balance is due at the start of class (we accept most forms of payment).

“Your reservation page says ‘No Spots Left.’ Is there a waitlist?”

Yes! At this time, we limit our classes and workshops to 8 participants to safely and comfortably fit in our Farmhouse Kitchen. If you would like to be added to the waitlist for a class or workshop, you can fill out the form below, and we will notify you if space becomes available or if we add additional classes (which we will do if a class has a substantial waitlist).

“What about tipping?”

As in all service industries, tipping is much appreciated. We are your cooks, servers, educators, bussers, and dishwashers forevery event, and in many cases we grow the food we cook too! We try to keep our costs reasonable for the quality of service and total experience you get at The Cooking School. If you had a fun time, a little show of gratuity is always welcome. You know, just the tip!

“Can children attend the Cooking School @ Hedera Farm?”

Our classes are designed for adults, but we do invite responsible children over the age of 12 to attend with an enrolled adult. There is always a risk of injury when working with sharp tools, live fire, and kitchen equipment, so we ask that guests wishing to enroll younger participants be aware of these risks, and feel their minor is responsible enough, able to participate in the event, and comfortable working in/with a group of adults.
There will be Waivers!

“What if I have a food allergy or sensitivity?”

While we will do our best to accommodate all our guests’ needs, we are not an are not an allergen-free kitchen, but do follow restaurant industry practices for cleaning and ensuring proper food handling to prevent allergen cross-contamination (All Kitchen staff are ServSafe Certified Food Service Managers). Please let us know in advance if you have any allergies or aversions, and we’ll do our best to keep you safe and happy!

“What skill level do I need to attend a class?”

Our classes are designed with adults in mind. That said, we welcome adults of all skill levels into our classes and workshops, from absolute beginners to professionals looking to add to their repertoire. We like to keep the tone light-hearted and fun for everyone, so no stressing allowed! We treat all our guests with grace, guidance, and patience, and we’ll answer any and all questions along the way (to the best of our knowledge, at least… or we’ll just make something up that sounds smart).

“Are classes hands-on or demonstrations?”

Currently, our classes are taught in the renovated Kitchen of the historic Farmhouse @ Hedera Farm. It is a well appointed home-style kitchen (realtor speak: “a Chef’s Kitchen”) with all the wonderful constraints of a historic home. All of our classes are taught in a demonstration format, with some hands-on activities. Classes designated as “Workshops” will offer more hands-on opportunities and a take home product. Full classes can be a little tight on space, so depending on the number of students and type of dishes we are creating, some classes will have limited hand-on activities. We are working on adding a Classroom Kitchen to our barn renovations. Once those renovations are complete, we will be expanding our hands-on offerings.

“What if I don’t want to participate in the hands-on portion?”

No work, no food! Just kidding. All participation is 100% optional. Whether you are not comfortable with a tool or technique being taught, or just prefer to be pampered in the kitchen, we’re happy to do all the work and have you sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

“I have a mobility issue, can I attend a class?”

Due to the historic nature of the property, the Farmhouse at Hedera Farm is not an accessible space at this time. There are three rough granite steps up into the kitchen, as well as a step down into our living room. Farm & Garden tours are outdoors and may include walking on soft or uneven ground. We are working on having an entry ramp installed in the coming months, and will do our best to accommodate the expressed needs of our guests. All participants should be able to stand or sit on a wooden stool for the entire length of the event. We will provide stools for all participants. Please note that not all stools have backs (but we will do our best to accommodate the individual needs of our guests).
